In my previous career, for 10 years I reported on technology startups for MIT Technology Review. I’d find them at conferences, meetings with venture capitalists, and by scouring scientific literature for breakthroughs with practical implications. By the time I found them, many of them already had their story down. They knew their business proposition, could pitch it in an elevator and explain it to anyone’s grandparents. Others, not so much. The most rewarding interviews for me were the ones that ended with a researcher thanking me for helping to clarify what exactly it was they were up to and why it mattered.

My medium has changed a little, but essentially I still do the same thing. At MIT Technology Review I told stories in print and on the web, using words, pictures, infographics, and videos. I do the same thing today, but I also build the website itself. And I add tools that allow companies to convert website visitors to customers.

The first service I offer is the one I developed over those 10 years as a reporter and editor at MIT Technology Review. By reading existing materials and conducting probing interviews, I help clients clarify what they need in a website and lay out options for how they can achieve it.
